Miocene climate archives represent an opportunity to gain insight into processes that influence and are affected by climate change and to provide plausible analogs for future warming. During the Miocene, the Earth system experienced dynamic changes: continents' positions resembled those of present-day, but topography changed, sea levels fluctuated, ice sheets were dynamic, CO2 levels varied, and flora and fauna evolved into taxa that exist today. Our understanding of processes driving these changes are still developing. This session explores the processes, forcings, and feedbacks operating within the Earth system during the Miocene, Oligocene-Miocene transition, and Miocene-Pliocene transition. We seek submissions across a board range of topics, including but not limited to marine and terrestrial climate records, carbon cycle dynamics, cryosphere dynamics, atmosphere and ocean circulation, evolution of biota and ecosystems, and changes in paleogeography and topography. We welcome contributions based on proxy records, numerical models, or other innovative approaches.
