Magnetic reconnection is a universal process in magnetized plasmas that drives explosive energy release, particle acceleration and often large-scale reconfiguration of the reconnecting system. Kinetic-scale processes within the reconnection diffusion regions enable the redistribution of mass and magnetic flux throughout the magnetosphere. Reconnection is a shared interest across a broad range of disciplines that advance discovery through differing but complementary datasets. Spacecraft missions such as Cluster and MMS have provided vital insights into its local-scale physics, while upcoming missions like TRACERS and SMILE promise new perspectives on the temporal and spatial variability and large-scale impacts of magnetic reconnection. Laboratory facilities also continue to shed light on the universal physics of reconnection, particularly as the community prepares for FLARE. This session invites contributions on the kinetic physics of reconnection and its meso and global scale coupling with magnetospheres.
