Wildfire plays a critical role in shaping global ecosystems, but its ecological impacts vary widely across regions and are influenced by both natural climate conditions (warming and extreme) and human activities (such as prescribed burning and mechanical thinning). In the context of a changing environment, understanding how fire interacts with ecosystem processes is increasingly urgent. This session invites contributions that examine fire impacts on ecosystems, the carbon budget, and biogeochemical cycles across spatial and temporal scales, with a broad focus on: (1) forest mortality and recovery, (2) above- and below-ground carbon dynamics, (3) biogeochemical processes, and (4) biodiversity loss. We encourage submissions that utilize remote sensing, field observations, and ecosystem (Earth system) models l to investigate these complex interactions. By bringing together interdisciplinary approaches and diverse datasets, this session aims to advance our understanding of fire–ecosystem feedbacks and inform more effective fire and land management practices in a warming world.
