Macro-Energy Systems (MES) is an emergent interdisciplinary field that examines large-scale, systems-level, and long-term aspects of energy systems and their interactions with environmental, economic, and social systems. Sustainability and equity concerns, and computational advances have fueled a growing area of study with an increasingly rich set of tools and questions. This session welcomes participation from researchers addressing topics in MES from diverse perspectives—including, but not limited to, energy system modeling, environmental and energy economics, climate science, policy analysis, and social science. We invite contributions on topics addressing energy systems transitions to address global environmental challenges, interactions between MES and the Earth system, and/or their societal implications. The session will emphasize interdisciplinary approaches and community-building to advance shared understanding and shape future research directions. It will also provide a platform for identifying priority research questions, collaboration opportunities, and actionable next steps for the field.
