As urbanization accelerates, it is reshaping landscapes and placing increasing pressure on ecosystems within and around cities. Compounding urbanization processes, climate-driven extremes like drought, flooding, and heat further intensify pressure, both on people and the environment. There is a critical need for science-based strategies to enhance urban resilience, while promoting social equity and environmental sustainability. This session invites contributions that utilize Earth observations, geospatial data, artificial intelligence (AI), and modeling frameworks combined with insights on collaborative and co-designed science efforts with communities to advance interdisciplinary understanding of urbanization and its environmental impacts. We welcome studies addressing land use and land cover change, urban ecosystem functions, wildfire, disaster issues, water use and conservation, and exploration of nature-based solutions (NbS) for implementations that foster multi-scale, multi-sector collaborations.
