Across the entire terrestrial hydrologic domain, interactions between groundwater and surface water control both water availability and quality. Quantifying these exchanges of water and solutes between the surface and the subsurface is immensely challenging, especially considering the range of scales over which they occur. Moreover, these interactions occur across a wide variety of hydrologic settings, from mountains to coasts. Different environments differ in the challenges associated with GW-SW interactions. In inland systems, interactions between rivers and aquifers can be heavily impacted by long-term and extreme hydroclimatic changes, extraction, and contamination. In coastal environments, GW-SW interactions can salinize freshwater resources and influence groundwater discharge that sustains ecosystems. This session invites abstracts investigating groundwater-surface water interactions and their potential implications across all settings. Studies that include modeling, fieldwork, geospatial analyses, or management applications are welcome, particularly those that aim to predict shifts in these interactions with future hydroclimatic and geomorphological changes.
