Cities and emerging urban areas face increasing water management challenges and flooding issues due to increasing imperviousness, altered hydrological processes, and climatic changes. Expanding urbanization disrupts water cycles, leading to more frequent and intense hydroclimatic extremes and flash flooding. Compound flooding (rainfall accumulation, riverine, and oceanic surge) is of growing concern, particularly in coastal urban areas. We invite contributions from scientists, engineers, and practitioners across various hydroclimate disciplines to address these interconnected issues. These include frontier studies on urbanization impacts on hydroclimatic extremes, prediction of urban water patterns, and effective mitigation/adaptation strategies. Specific topics of interest include the development of new datasets for extreme rainfall and flooding, modeling of individual or compound flooding, analysis of flood event drivers, and projections of future risks. We also welcome studies on evaluations of green infrastructure, nature-based solutions, and innovative urban water management approaches.
