Subseasonal to seasonal prediction skill of precipitation and temperature anomalies has remained stubbornly low. Recent findings suggest that the land surface is a key source of predictability at subseasonal to seasonal (S2S) and interannual timescales, and possibly beyond. This session invites contributions that enhance our understanding of precipitation and temperature predictability-from sub-seasonal to longer timescales-with a focus on the land-atmosphere interactions, including for extreme events such as droughts, floods, and heatwaves. Topics may include local and remote influences of land temperature - especially over high elevation - soil moisture, vegetation, and snow. We welcome studies on the effect of land forcing on predictability and related dynamic and physical mechanisms driving hydroclimate feedback, including (but not limited to) global and regional model experiments, model intercomparison projects, and observational analyses, site measurements, and reanalysis. Comparative assessments of the roles and uncertainties of land versus oceanic processes are also encouraged.
