River morphology, or the shape and composition of river channels and their change through time, has fundamental effects on society and the environment. Issues such as flood hazard levels, health of aquatic and riparian habitat, sediment and nutrient transport, and biogeochemical cycling are all affected by river morphology. Yet, despite this importance, the spatial patterns and temporal trends in river morphology remain some of least known parts of the landscape. For this session, we welcome contributions that advance river morphology science, including but not limited to the development of hydroinformatics tools, machine learning techniques, and other computational methods for processing river bathymetry data from sources like NASA’s SWOT and ICESat-2 satellite missions, topobathymetric lidar and sonar multibeams, the generation and dissemination of hydro-linked river bathymetry datasets, and their applications in hydrology and hydrodynamics across diverse spatial and temporal scales.
