Wetlands play an essential role in maintaining watershed functions by regulating hydrologic and biogeochemical fluxes. However, their functions are increasingly shaped, and often impaired, by disturbances such as climate change, altered hydrology, nutrient loading, and other human activities in the catchment. These disturbances interact across scales and may affect wetlands unevenly, creating a need to synthesize individual wetland studies towards a more integrated understanding of wetlandscapes—the collection of wetlands across a landscape and their cumulative influence on ecosystem services. This session invites interdisciplinary contributions that explore wetland hydrologic, biogeochemical, and ecological responses to natural and anthropogenic drivers across temporal and spatial scales. We encourage studies that examine disturbance impacts on wetlands, wetlandscapes and their functions, as well as those that leverage field observations, modeling, remote sensing, or synthesis approaches. Our aim is to spark discussion that bridges the gap between wetland-scale scientific advancements and wetlandscape processes in watersheds.
