The structure of plant and fungal communities (i.e., species identities and abundances) can have large effects on soil biogeochemical cycles. These effects can stem from their use of soil resources (water, nutrients, and, in the case of fungi, organic matter), their contributions to SOM (through the quality and quantity of their litter, necromass, and exudates), and their associations with other communities (beneficial associations with mutualists, antagonistic associations with pathogens, competition with saprotrophs). In this session, we welcome all presentations that link plant or fungal communities to soil biogeochemical cycling, especially those considering interactions with symbiotic organisms and non-symbiotic free-living microbes.
