This session focuses on crustal deformation across a range of space-time scales from millimeter-scale laboratory experiments to large faults. We solicit contributions that quantify geologic heterogeneity (e.g., stress, pressure, slip, visco/elastic properties, geometry, surface roughness and composition) and integrate heterogeneity into numerical models and laboratory experiments. Topics of interest include rock fracture and friction, fault creep, slow-slip, tremor, dynamic rupture, seismic source characterizations, seismic sequence modeling, pore pressure effects and preparatory processes before dynamic failure. We particularly invite innovative studies that explore deformation processes across different space-time scales using numerical, observational and experimental tools.
