Greenhouse gas emission inventories, climate mitigation planning, carbon dioxide removal activities, carbon offset programs, cap-and-trade systems, and their associated Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (MRV) frameworks depend upon data that are accurate, systematic, practical, and transparent. Multiple MRV frameworks for carbon are evolving reflecting a diversity of spatial scales, governance arenas, and relevant policies, resulting in challenges around implementation, transparency, and comparability. Given the scientific challenges, policy importance, and breadth of activities occurring around the world, this session will focus on advances in MRV research and applications, including decision support and policy. Land-, coastal-, and ocean-focused contributions are welcome. Submissions from, or featuring the perspectives of, stakeholders from local, state, and national government agencies, NGOs, and the private sector are encouraged.
