Understanding soil function responses at regional scale is key for predicting impacts on Earth systems. Soils sustain ecosystem services and host biodiversity that can power the bioeconomy. With impacts across regions, the microbial activity and abiotic reactions influence how soils store and release essential nutrients across scales, from molecular to pore-level. Yet, our ability to represent these mechanistic processes and predict soil dynamics are challenged by a lack of data-model connectivity. In this session, we welcome contributions with data from ecological networks, e.g., the Molecular Observation Network (MONet), National Ecological Observatory Network (NEON), Long-Term Ecological Research (LTER), AmeriFlux focused on cellular, molecular and pore-scale processes that provide mechanistic insights on biogeochemical cycling and enhance predictive modeling from pore to regional scales. Additionally, we encourage submissions integrating microbiological, mineralogical, physical, and biochemical perspectives to address how pore-scale structure and function, at spatial and temporal scales, informs ecosystem dynamics at global scale.
