A better understanding and modeling of greenhouse gas (GHG) fluxes from natural ecosystems is essential for more reliable climate-change projection, mitigation, and adaptation. However, current estimates of natural GHGs remain highly uncertain. This session highlights observations, synthesis, mechanistic understanding, and upscaling/modeling of GHGs from natural ecosystems, including wetlands, freshwater systems, forests, and grasslands. Specifically, the topics include but are not limited to:- Measurements of CO2, CH4 and N2O fluxes and their key drivers;- Data synthesis regionally and globally;- Understanding the mechanisms and spatiotemporal patterns of GHGs;- Upscaling/modeling of GHGs using machine learning, remote sensing top-down inversion, and bottom-up biogeochemistry models
