Sun-induced chlorophyll fluorescence (SIF) is poised to advance research in earth system science and global environmental change. This session focuses on measurements, modeling, and applications of SIF across different temporal and spatial scales. We welcome contributions covering: (1) advances in techniques for observing and monitoring SIF from field, airborne, and satellite platforms, including instrument design, calibration, and retrieval; (2) research applications of SIF to understand spatiotemporal variability of photosynthesis across scales, in higher plants or phytoplankton, and how this relates to environmental resources and stressors; and (3) practical applications of SIF to issues of social significance, such as monitoring of terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems in the context of food security, carbon cycling, and/or other ecosystem services. We encourage contributions that explore the integrative use of SIF with other remote sensing measurements (e.g., hyperspectral, thermal, and LiDAR) and atmospheric tracers (e.g., CO2 and OCS), and/or machine learning and process-based modeling approaches.
