A fundamental motivation for geoscience is developing knowledge and solutions that help address society’s most pressing issues. Insights from a variety of communities and disciplines, especially relating to social behavior, decision-making, and the humanities, help improve society’s ability to pursue evidence-based environmental solutions or actions. This session highlights diverse talks that draw on theory, practice, and methods from the social and behavioral sciences as well as the humanities (including but not limited to anthropology, economics, history, political science, decision science, psychology, philosophy, and sociology) and from practitioner communities that enhance our understanding of science-society interactions and/or how evidence-based solutions/actions manifest and/or the societal impact of geosciences. We invite approaches, frameworks, stories or experiences that scientists and/or practitioners can use to improve science-society interactions, and that support social and behavioral changes at multiple scales. Local or regional perspectives from in and around the Gulf or Southeastern United States are especially encouraged.
