Mantle convection plays a central role in shaping Earth and other rocky planets throughout their history and across various scales of time and space. Following the magma ocean stage, long-term solid-state mantle convection initiates and is coupled to the dynamics of the mantle-lithosphere system, compositional differentiation or mixing, core-mantle reactions, melting and crustal production, and surface tectonics. Mineral phase transitions, governed by pressure, temperature, composition, and volatiles, are a key regulator of large-scale convection, influencing plume dynamics, slab stagnation, seismic discontinuities, and development of mantle structures. Understanding how these mechanisms have operated from early planetary histories to the present requires integrating observational, experimental, and theoretical approaches from various disciplines (e.g. geodynamics, mineral physics, geochemistry, petrology, seismology, comparative planetology). This session aims at understanding mantle convection and its relation to the dynamics, tectonics, structure, composition, phase transitions and evolution of Earth and other rocky planets across various temporal and spatial scales.
