Extreme hazards have become more intense and frequent across the Earth due to rapid land-use changes and a changing climate, underscoring an urgent need for a comprehensive understanding of their impacts and the development of effective mitigation strategies. This interdisciplinary session aims to address a wide spectrum of hazards—including landslides, floods, wildfires, drought, extreme weather events and earthquakes—by showcasing advances in satellite observations, data-driven modeling, and integration of emerging technologies. This session will highlight methodologies for predicting hazard events, assessing vulnerabilities, analyzing exposures, and implementing targeted mitigation and restoration strategies. This session seeks to foster a holistic understanding of natural hazards by exploring the complex interactions between physical processes and human activities—across land cover, surface water, and the atmosphere—to reduce long-term risks and enhance resilience. From Earth science to actionable solutions, we welcome contributions from various disciplines to explore innovative approaches for risk assessment, hazard mitigation, and environmental restoration.
