Collaboration between universities, scientists, experts, students, and communities can lead to long lasting, real-world solutions, particularly as the need for climate services and other sustainability tools grows. Intentional collaboration can also provide meaningful personal and professional rewards for all involved. When done well, this work centers community voices and needs while connecting to scientific expertise to develop actionable solutions. However, it can be difficult to know where to start to do this work; does it begin with the community need? Available funding? Academic interest? Through multiple perspectives, this session will explore the challenges and rewards of doing engaged research, which “encourages the production and use of knowledge in active collaboration with partners, including policy makers, practitioners, and communities.
