The demand for mineral resources, including critical minerals necessary for energy technology, manufacturing, and infrastructure, is driving renewed attention to fundamental understanding of the geologic processes that drive the global distribution of mineral resources. This session aims to bring together research and programs in mineralogy, petrology, volcanology, and geochemistry that advance our understanding of the formation, distribution, and behavior of critical mineral systems. We invite contributions that explore the fundamental Earth processes behind ore genesis, including magmatic differentiation, hydrothermal alteration, fluid-rock interactions, and metamorphic transformations, as well as analytical innovations and modeling approaches that shed light on mineral systems.
