The deep ocean remains one of the least explored and most enigmatic environments on Earth. Understanding this vast, remote region requires innovation in technology, scientific methods, and data infrastructure. This session invites contributions from the spectrum of deep submergence research, including scientists using remotely operated vehicles (ROVs), autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs), human-occupied vehicles (HOVs), and towed systems to investigate the ocean floor and water column; technologists developing new tools and platforms to access extreme environments; and data managers building systems to ensure that deep sea data are discoverable, interoperable, and reusable.This session seeks to highlight novel discoveries enabled by deep submergence technology; advancements in vehicle design, sensor development, real-time and remote operations systems; interdisciplinary work and contributions that connect scientific inquiry with technological innovation and data stewardship; and case studies that demonstrate the power of integrating data science, engineering, and fieldwork to push the boundaries of deep ocean exploration.
