Ocean-based carbon dioxide removal (mCDR) approaches offer scalable opportunities to mitigate climate change while providing potential co-benefits, such as reducing ocean acidification. However, quantifying the mCDR efficacy remains a scientific challenge due to complex environmental interactions occurring across spatial and temporal scales, and across different Earth’s reservoirs (atmosphere, ocean, sediments, and biosphere). This session invites contributions from across the mCDR research community to foster integration among laboratory work, field studies, and modeling efforts. A key goal is to advance the scientific foundation needed for robust monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV) of mCDR. We welcome abstracts that explore: 1) particle–seawater interactions and mineral dissolution kinetics; 2) results and verification from field experiments; 3) investigation of relevant biogeochemical feedbacks; and 4) modeling efforts across scales. By drawing on diverse tools and perspectives, this session aims to identify critical knowledge gaps, promote collaboration, and support a more integrated understanding of mCDR.
