Mesoscale air-sea interactions—spanning tens to hundreds of kilometers and hours to weeks—play a vital role in regulating the exchange of momentum, heat, and moisture between the ocean and atmosphere. Ocean eddies, meanders, weather fronts, and rapidly intensifying storms drive variability in both atmospheric and oceanic boundary layers. Recent advances in remote sensing, autonomous platforms, high-resolution coupled models, and machine learning have enabled detailed investigations of these processes in dynamic and under-observed regions, from tropical cyclone zones to polar seasonal ice areas. This session invites observational, theoretical, and modeling studies exploring mesoscale (and submesoscale) air-sea coupling, feedback mechanisms, and their influence on broader climate variability. Topics may include boundary layer responses to fine-scale ocean currents and surface waves, coupling in extreme weather systems, and innovative modeling approaches. We particularly welcome interdisciplinary contributions bridging ocean, atmosphere, and climate science, as well as studies employing novel technologies or community-based efforts in remote regions.
