Natural gas hydrate –formed under high-pressure, low-temperature conditions in sediments– has drawn significant scientific interest due to its implications for seafloor instability, energy resources, and the global carbon cycle. Recent and ongoing geophysical and drilling programs have provided a wealth of new knowledge on the distribution of gas hydrate in both marine and permafrost settings, as well as the dynamic behavior of the associated gas and gas hydrate systems. In this session, we encourage contributions that provide insights into gas hydrate systems through geological, geophysical, geochemical, and microbiological characterization, based on fieldwork, modeling, and laboratory studies.
