Organized by early career researchers (ECRs), this session aims to showcase research done by fellow ECRs in urban systems and environment. Urban areas concentrate population, resources, trade, and infrastructure, which profoundly impact Earth systems, and are uniquely susceptible to local and global-scale changes. While traditional sessions offer opportunities to present specific projects in depth, this session encourages broader research overviews to foster collaboration and build research networks among ECRs and across career stages. We invite presenters who identify as ECRs (e.g., graduate students, postdocs, assistant professors) to provide a broad overview of their research program (completed, ongoing, or proposed work). Those in the job market, looking for graduate school opportunities, or seeking collaborations are especially encouraged to participate. Any research themes relating to urban areas are welcome, including:

  • Urban boundary-layer processes, land-atmosphere interactions

  • Urban food-energy-water nexus

  • Urban biophysical, biogeochemical, and ecological processes

  • Urban climate and extremes

  • Urban energy resilience
