This session provides a forum for scientists working on a wide variety of topics related to atmospheric chemistry and composition. This year, the session will have a focus on organic peroxy radicals (RO2) that are central intermediates in the atmospheric oxidation of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), driving the formation of secondary pollutants such as secondary organic aerosols (SOA) and tropospheric ozone. The presentations will include laboratory measurements, chamber studies, mechanistic modeling, analyses of satellite data, and field observations conducted in various regions throughout the world. Topics covered include many issues of societal importance, including air quality (e.g., PM2.5, mercury, surface ozone), ecosystem function and health, wildfires, and stratospheric ozone layer depletion and recovery.
