Understanding the long-term history of ecosystems and biodiversity is critical for contextualizing present-day ecological change and anticipating future trajectories. Paleoecological studies provide essential insights into how species, communities, and environments have responded to past climate variability, disturbances, and human impacts, making them increasingly relevant in our rapidly changing world. We invite contributions focused on reconstructing ecosystem history and biodiversity globally (terrestrial and/or marine) and on all timescales. Submissions may explore past environmental and ecological change using a wide range of approaches, including—but not limited to—modeling, geochemical proxies, pollen, and fossil records. We especially welcome interdisciplinary studies that integrate multiple lines of evidence to illuminate patterns of ecological resilience, transitions, and biodiversity dynamics in response to climatic, geologic, or anthropogenic drivers.
