Hyperspectral Earth observation is rapidly shifting from specialized research missions to globally accessible, operational capabilities. With the deployment of public missions such as NASA's Earth Surface Mineral Dust Source Investigation (EMIT) and Germany's EnMAP satellite, along with emerging commercial constellations such as Pixxel's Firefly satellites and Planet's Tanager satellite, a wealth of new spectral data is becoming available to scientists and decision makers. This panel brings together leaders from government agencies, academic institutions, commercial data providers, and applied user organizations to discuss how these new datasets are reshaping scientific and societal uses. Panelists will share insights on real-world applications, including biomass monitoring for carbon accounting, methane detection for greenhouse gas monitoring, and water quality monitoring for sustainable resource management. These examples demonstrate how hyperspectral imaging is revealing Earth processes and anthropogenic impacts previously not easily measured at scale. This session also addresses critical challenges, including processing of large spectral datasets, developing analysis-ready products, and ensuring researchers and practitioners have the skills and infrastructure to utilize these capabilities. Attendees will gain strategies for building organizational readiness, leveraging open-source tools and standards, and engaging with public and commercial missions.
