The global geoscience community faces a period of profound transformation, shaped by rapid developments across political, technological, and societal domains. These include sweeping restructuring and downsizing within the U.S. federal science enterprise, the disruptive emergence of generative AI, and escalating public skepticism toward scientific expertise. Such shifts present unprecedented challenges for scientists at all career stages. How did we arrive at this juncture, and what actionable strategies can we adopt to navigate forwardÂboth as individuals and as a professional society? To address these pressing concerns, the New Frontiers Committee of the AGU College of Fellows will convene a session featuring a three-person panel discussion and an open community forum. This event aims to illuminate current dilemmas, expose collective blind spots, and propose constructive pathways for restoring public trust in the geosciences and allied disciplines. Panelists will be selected for their capacity to offer balanced, nuanced perspectives and to engage directly with core issues affecting AGU members.
