The essence of Art is in making a powerful emotional impact on the viewer. Can we more effectively leverage art in collaboration with science to expand awareness and express the critical need for action in a rapidly changing world? We propose an interactive science and art exchange highlighting different art media and science collaborations. The solicited pieces will serve as the platform for exchanging ideas among panelists and, critically, among audience members, about how we might create principles of practice in the art-science interface to achieve broad ranging awareness and ultimately stimulate action on issues of critical global concern. We will draw from collaborations in visual media, film, and music. Panelists will present a short overview and illustration of their collaborations. Each will then identify the essential ingredients that made their particular collaboration work and draw observations on the impact of such collaborations beyond the science realm. Panelists and audience members will be invited to discuss and craft a set of principles for art-science collaborations. These principles can be shared widely for those seeking to create such collaborations.
