Over the past 20 years, NOAA Research has continued to innovate and improve hurricane forecast technologies in order to protect American lives, property, and economic infrastructure. By improving observation and modeling capabilities, NOAA can more efficiently gather critical data which informs hurricane watches and warnings which ultimately protect the safety, health, and economy of the American people. This town hall will showcase the scientific priorities of NOAA Research, and the significant improvements to hurricane track accuracy and forecasting capabilities developed at NOAA since 2005. The discussion will emphasize the cutting-edge observational platforms and methodologies utilized to gather critical, time-sensitive data to create the most accurate hurricane forecasts. Panelists will also discuss how emerging technological advancements have led to greater resilience at the community-level, and how these advancements have impacted the way communities receive and react to extreme weather events.
